Research and Planning: James Bond - Skyfall Trailer Analysis

Skyfall

'Skyfall' is the twenty third James Bond film produced by Eon Productions. It was released in 2012 and stars Daniel Craig, Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes, Albert Finny, Naomie Harris, and Judi Dench. A unique selling point for 'Skyfall' is having Judi Dench appear in the film. She appeared in other James Bond films and therefore is a noticeable actor that can be recognised from the others as being a successful actor, enticing more viewers.
The trailer begins with three quick scenes that lead to a longer lasting scene where a man is holding a gun. The use of the short scenes will create tension within the audience. Where he is holding a gun it suggests to the audience that someone is going to die, this is a convention of an action film. The weaponry used is also what the audience expect to see in an action trailer, as it immediately grips the audiences attention to see if they can see what the character is planning to do next. There are car chases and fighting which both are also expected to be seen within the film. The tempo of the music increases to build suspense, throughout the scenes involving the car chase. Other typical conventions of an action film that we see in the trailer are explosions. They are there to engage the audience into wanting to watch the film and figure out the storyline/plot. Without the use of swearing, violence, weapons, car chases, explosions etc. the audience would lose interest and the film wouldn't be successful within the industry.
The costume infers that the people within the trailer are of importance as they are smartly dressed, in suits. Such similar clothing could also suggest that they are working as part of a team,(MI6).
The dramatic music throughout the trailer adds emphasis to the story. The non diegetic sound, for example the soundtrack, is for the audiences use only therefore it has to reflect the same mood that is within the scene. Therefore, when there is a scene full of explosions and fights, the music will build up going from a consistent level to a really powerful ending. The effect of this makes the audience feel the mood of the scene.
