Grown Ups
Grown Ups is a 2010 American buddy comedy film directed by Dennis Dugan, written by Adam Sandler, starring Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, and Rob Schneider. Sandler and Fred Wolf wrote the script. The unique selling point of this trailer would be the famous and recognisable actors.
The trailer begins with a group of men who were friends at school and all played basket ball together, thirty years later their basketball coach dies and they all become reunited at his funeral. All but one of the men have a family. There families spend a whole weekend at the coaches house by the lake. They bond and share precious memories.
Like a typical comedy the trailer shares some conventions of a comedy film. Firstly the typical setting for a comedy film like grown up is a well populated area. Which all the men come from before staying at the lake house. It is important to capture medium shots so that the audience can see all of the characters facial expressions. During the trailer there is a scene where the mother in law notices a porch swing to sit on and as she announces that, that is what she will be doing all weekend there is a close up of her families faces, the do not look to impressed.
Included in the film there is a character that everyone can relate to, you have the one who is picked on because of his weight, the posh ones, who spend a ridiculous amount of money on what others view as pointless, the weird one that no one in the group understands, and a pregnant women. Having such a wide range of characters allows the audience to compare themselves to at least one of them. Creating a large fan base helping the film do well within the industry.
