To improve your research further aim to revisit posts and make sure all of the following areas have been addressed: Genre Target Audience Characters Narrative Engimas Titles Camera Composition Sound Mise En Scene Unique Selling Points Pace of editing A really good start - well done!

Research and Planning: Horror Genre

Comedy-Horror
-Comedy-Horror combines comedy with traditional horror movie themes and characters. Because of the subject matter, Comedy-Horror films can cross over into the Black Comedy sub-genre. Comedy-Horror films aim to scare the audience, but also provide comical outlets that let the audience laugh at their fear.
-Examples: Beetlejuice, Zombieland, Shaun of the Dead.
-Teen-Horror
-Teen-Horror is a sub-genre that revolves completely around a teenager or a group of teenagers. Typically, these movies have a large cast and a clear hero or heroine. Teen-Horror films often play upon traditional teenage issues, such as dating and prom, and turn them into suspenseful and thrilling situations.
-Examples: I Know What You Did Last Summer, Scream, Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
-Monster-Horror
-A Monster film is sub-genre of Horror that centers on a struggle between human beings and a monster.Often, the monster in the film has been created in an “experiment gone wrong.” The monster usually serves as a villain, and the film portrays a hero or heroine that ultimately saves the world from the monster. Although these movies commonly fall into the Horror genre, Monster films have a long tradition within Science-Fiction and Fantasy film as well.
-Examples: Aliens, Godzilla, Creature from the Black Lagoon.
-Slasher
-Slasher film is a sub-genre of Horror film that revolves around a psychopathic killer. This killer stalks and murders his victims in extremely violent and memorable ways. Though it centers on a specific killer, the violence is what sets Slasher films apart from other horror films. A Slasher film will devote more screen time to portray murder and mayhem than a traditional Horror film.
-Examples: Halloween, My Bloody Valentine, Black Christmas.

-Supernatural-Horror
-Supernatural-Horror film is a sub-genre that includes ghosts, demons, or other depictions of supernatural occurrences. Often, Supernatural-Horror films combine elements of religion into the plot. Common themes in Supernatural-Horror films include the afterlife, the devil, and demonic possession. Unlike Religious Thrillers, Supernatural-Horror films are not limited to specific religious elements and can contain more vivid and gruesome violence.
-Examples: The Exorcist, The Ring, The Omen.
-Zombie-Horror
-Zombie film is a sub-genre of Horror film that portrays mindless human beings who are raised from the dead. These films often include a Zombie invasion, and center around Zombies feasting on human flesh. The plot of a Zombie film then revolves around the struggle between the living, and the living-dead. Zombie film not only falls into the Horror genre, but Sci-Fi, Thriller, and Comedy as well.
-Examples: Night of the Living Dead, Shaun of the Dead, 28 Days Later.

Research and Planning - Grown ups Trailer Analysis

Grown Ups

Grown Ups is a 2010 American buddy comedy film directed by Dennis Dugan, written by Adam Sandler, starring Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, and Rob Schneider. Sandler and Fred Wolf wrote the script. The unique selling point of this trailer would be the famous and recognisable actors.
The trailer begins with a group of men who were friends at school and all played basket ball together, thirty years later their basketball coach dies and they all become reunited at his funeral. All but one of the men have a family. There families spend a whole weekend at the coaches house by the lake. They bond and share precious memories.
Like a typical comedy the trailer shares some conventions of a comedy film. Firstly the typical setting for a comedy film like grown up is a well populated area. Which all the men come from before staying at the lake house.  It is important to capture medium shots so that the audience can see all of the characters facial expressions. During the trailer there is a scene where the mother in law notices a porch swing to sit on and as she announces that, that is what she will be doing all weekend there is a close up of her families faces, the do not look to impressed.
Included in the film there is a character that everyone can relate to, you have the one who is picked on because of his weight,  the posh ones, who spend a ridiculous amount of money on what others view as pointless, the weird one that no one in the group understands, and a pregnant women. Having such a wide range of characters allows the audience to compare themselves to at least one of them. Creating a large fan base helping the film do well within the industry.

Research and Planning: Grown Ups 2 Film Poster Analysis

Grown ups to is portrayed as being a fun family friendly easy watch. The audience can suggest this by the way all of the characters are in funny positions looking like they are enjoying themselves and having a laugh. Grown ups 2 is a sequel from the first one (Grown ups) the fan base from the original film will want to see the second film after the success and popularity of the first therefore it will be successful within the filming industry.
The audience can suggest that the film will in tail similar things from the first one because the men still look childish you can infer this from the way that they are positioned.
The 3D title is also a main focus on this poster implying that this film will be bigger and better than the last, enticing more viewers.
The colours are similar to the Grown Ups poster (the first one). Inferring, fun, excitement and joy.

Research and Planning: Grown ups Film Poster Analysis

The Grown ups film poster instantly suggests to the audience that it will focus on both genders either separately or at the same time within the film, we can suggest this by the way that it separates the males and females in the poster.  A stereotype is included in the poster, the men are having fun and playing in a child like manner while the females are standing with defensive body language and looking stern. Linking with the females facial expressions is the quote on the poster 'some guys just need a little extra time to mature'.
A cliché of the comedy genre is the woman look after the men. As they are stereotypically seen as the mother figures throughout the film. The title grown ups implies the difference of the grown up men and grown up women. Grown up men mess around and act similar to their children when around their friends, on the other hand the women will have lots of children to look after.
The film title is placed in the middle to purposely separate the images and text, allowing there to be greater focus on the images/text, but neither counteract each other. They just simply sit next to each other without distraction.
The use of the colour blue in the title links to happiness and fun which is shown through the male picture.

Research and Planning - Sherlock Holmes Magazine Analysis

Sherlock Holmes film poster connotes to the audience that the film is going to be mysterious because his body language does not give much away about the film. However, his body language does suggest that he is a main of importance, his suit clarifies this.
The unique selling point for this poster is the picture of Sherlock Holmes himself. He is a recognisable character with a large fan base. This enables the film to do better than those films with not so big a fan bases.
The colour of the text link with the image. The image is suggesting that Sherlock Holmes is in the cold, the colours of the text infer this too. Having the worlds 'World Exclusive' makes the audience seem as if it is really important and a must see.

Research and Planning - Safe Haven Film Poster

This safe haven film poster suggests that it is a love film because of what likes the two main characters about to kiss. The medium shot of them also includes a beach in the background, what we can see of the beach, it looks isolated and deserted, making them the only two on the beach, a cliché of a romantic film. Included in the poster is the text which informs the audience of the person who produced safe haven also produced dear john, and the not book, two other very successful romantic films within the industry. This information will attract potential viewers making the film popular in the industry.  You can infer that this is a romantic film by the stance in which the two characters are in. Another thing that the audience can suggest from the body language of the people is that because they aren't kissing fully, it could represent that something interferes with their love, ie, something bad could happen to them. Maybe even something tragic.
The colours used throughout the poster suggest happiness, love, health and faith as they are bright colours, it looks like it has a white effect on the whole of the image suggesting purity and strength between the couple.
A unique selling point for this film are the characters names which appear on the poster. Showing the audience which actor and actress play in the film, is a big selling point. If they are well known actors it will entice people to watch the film. Therefore having Josh Duhamel and Julianne Hough in the poster informs the audience of which well known actors/actresses star in the film.
The text on the poster does not distract any attention away from the picture itself. It is a simple font yet the size of the title acts as its attention. The colour of the text is a similar to tone of the colours which are used in the poster nevertheless, nothing is distracting.

Research and Planing - Avatar Film Poster Analysis

An instant unique selling point is including both main characters in the film. Engaging the audience into finding out more about the story line and the plot. The overlay of the pictures creates a sort of magical mood. The colours help create this atmosphere. Having both the vatar face and human face almost one suggests that throughout the film their paths cross, and that because of the magical theme, could infer that it is because of love that their characters meet. The colour of the avatars eyes are yellow connoting the happiness that she sees, which could link with the human character and the love aspect.  It could also represent energy and her fulfilling it. The sunset in the background also represents romantic imagery, which suggests to the audience that throughout this fantasy action film, love will play a major role in it.
A unique selling point for this poster, is including the director who has directed terminator 2 and titanic. Titanic is one of the most popular and greatest romantic films of all time, that by including this information it will create popularity and a great fan base helping the film do well within the industry.
The conventions of a fantasy/action film include common themes such as love, make - believe creatures, and supernatural events. The colour of the poster can suggest these themes. For example the blue is a cool colour and also the colour of the avatar which is a make believe creature. The colour of the orange sunset can imply warmth and happiness which is generally included in a love story.  Having so many themes within one film will allow it to do well in the industry. As it is covering different aspects.

Research and Planning - Toy Story Film Poster Analysis

This film poster infers that the Toy Story characters are faced with something terrifying as their facial expressions suggest this to the audience. The audience can imply that the character at the front is the protagonist. The way the other characters are hiding behind him could infer that he is powerful and has authority within the group. However, in contrast the audience could suggest that his body language proves that although he might have authority within the group he his scared and his venerable.
The title at the bottom stands out because of the bright colours used against the plain flooring. The poster in general is very colourful which can suggest to the audience that it is for children as the colours create a happy, vibrant, exciting pathos.
The unique selling point for this film is how the poster has included that this is toy story three, seeing as there have been two previous films with great success the audience can only infer that this one will be just as good and worth the watch. Having a large fan base within the toy story films can help it in the filming industry.
There are no quotes and very minimal information on the poster which can be good because it doesn't distract attention from the fictional characters. On the other hand could be a disadvantage in selling the film. Having no information included only means that the creators of the poster have expected people to have seen both toy story one and two. And therefore do not need to know any background information. However, it is always good to include producers, directors, and the actors who do the voice overs of the characters, to help the film do well in the industry.

Research and Planning - Sinister Film Poster Analysis

This poster can infer that the girl in the image has a significant part to play within the film. Nevertheless it could also suggest that because we cannot see her face, the creators of the poster want the audience to focus on the face within the blood. This character seems like the antagonist throughout the film. As she is smearing blood across a wall. This imagery symbolises death or murder. Which is disturbing to the audience however, is a convention of this horror genre.
The title of the film, looks as though it has been smudged connoting that it has been done on purpose. Which links to the trailer, as the murders were done on purpose.
The colours used in the poster represent death as they are very bleak and not very exciting. On the other hand it puts the attention on the face which is in the blood.
At the top of the poster it says 'from the makers of paranormal activity and insidious' this will create a large fan base making the film popular within the film industry. Both of the films have had huge success and that's what will entice people to watch the film. The audience will already have an insight on the style in which sinister will be if they have seen any of the paranormal activity films or insidious.
The poster is fairly vague as it doesn't consist of much information, the only information included is what the creators think will attract the audience, for example, directors, produces, and actors names. There is also a quote on the poster which reads ''genuinely terrifying, this will scare the hell out of you'. The use of the word hell will get the audience thinking about death which is the main theme included in the film sinister.

Research and Planning - Empire Magazine : Man of Steel Analysis

This Man of steel poster sells the film by its unique selling point by having Henry Cavill, who star as the main character in the film. People will recognise him for being a successful actor that has starred in other successful films, his most notable include: 'The cold light of day', Immortals', and 'Hellraiser'.
The colours used throughout the poster generally create quite a dark and mysterious mood. These moods are created by the use of dark colours. Dark colours helps keep man of steel the centre of attention. The font used is bold also drawing attention to itself. White is used which can be inferred as being a simple and subtle colour suggesting purity. Which can link into man of steel being true and pure to the people he saves.
The poster infers to the audience that man of steel is powerful as he is standing with his head held high and his shoulders pulled back. The light shining through on the right hand side of the photograph can suggest his authority, power and dependence. The way that superman his as high as the clouds can also be interpreted as him being the greatest and almighty. One of the unique selling points is the protagonist of the film (superman).Having him centred of the poster, will attract an audience and fan base making the film popular and therefore successful within the industry. Another unique selling point, is the title of the film. Naming it 'Man of Steel' makes it stand out more. It is different from superman which has been heard many times before, loosing its effect. The words man of steel creates powerful imagery as though he can fight and save anything. Enticing the audience to see more.
The poster includes the title of the film, the produces, directors and actors, giving the audience an idea of what the film will include and also the plot of the film. The poster links well with the trailer as it suggests action through its imagery, which is what the trailer also does.

Research and Planning - Empire Magazine: Harry Potter Analysis

This Empire Magazine poster is informing the reader about the harry potter film. Its unique selling point is that it includes the successful actor which is popular within the industry and very much recognisable. Based on the film having a good fan base from the previous films of harry potter. People are going to be aware of how good they are purely because of there previous success.
The magazine cover confers to the reader that the 'Harry Potter' film will consist of much action. We can suggest this by the effect of the smashed glass around the cover of the magazine. The main character his holding a wand which is suggesting the magic involved in the film. Having the wand and the smash glass surrounding it could be of contrast and suggest to the audience that this time in the film that their magic could end up resulting in bad decisions/consequence.
The text used is the colour white, which is the colour of purity and innocence which also contrasts with the imagery used. The use of the white text makes it stand out for the audience attracting them to the audience making  them aware of the important information.
Having 'The End Begins' makes the reader believe that this could be the end of the harry potter films, exciting the audience to talk about the film, creating a large fan base making the film more successful within the industry.

Research and Planning: Empire Magazine Hobbit Analysis

This Hobbit poster, informs the audience about the film. Its red text stands out attracting the audience to the poster. The poster includes the three main characters which acts as a unique selling point as they are all successful actors/actresses. Having such recognisable actors will gain a large fan base, which will help make the film successful within the industry.
The red text also stands out and is in contrast with the white text, which is more of a subtle colour. This is an easy way of telling what the makers of the poster want you too see first.
The actors position is also a convention of the action film that the 'hobbit' is. The clothes they are wearing suggests army imagery. Inferring to the audience that there will be wars, and fighting throughout the film. The middle actor is holding a gun which can connote that he has power and importance throughout the film. The way he is standing making eye contact with the audience can also suggest that he is possibly the main character and also the protagonist, because he is in the centre of the poster, holding the most weaponry.

Research and Planning - James Bond Magazine Cover

In this poster we are drawn to the three iconic symobols. The first being Daniel Craig (James Bond). The second symbol being the Aston Martin. And lastly, Big Ben. They all portray typical British culture. In this skyfall poster we see Daniel Craig as James Bond sitting comfortably on what appears to be his Aston Martin. He is also holding a gun, however, is not pointing it towards anything. Having the gun connotes that this film is an action. The gun makes him look powerful and in control. The unique selling point I Daniel Craig being the subject focus of the poster. He is an icon and recognisable for being the James bond. Having him on the poster, will make people aware that the poster is about the James bond film, even before reading the title.
The font used looks modern which links with the clothing he is wearing. His suit gives us the impression that he is smart and important. The text on the poster is there to give information about the film Skyfall and it is  important that it stands out however, doesn't distract attention from the image. The font is in black and this is a really effective colour as it is bold and stands out looking sophisticated.

Research and Planning - White House Down Analysis

White House Down

White house down is a 2013 American action film directed by Roland Emmerich. The films screenplay is by James Vanderbilt. It stars the successful Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx. The film was released on June 28th 2013 and has since grossed over $150million.
The plot involves a main character (Channing Tatum) who Is assigned to speaker of the house. The main character has an unstable relationship with his daughter. When touring the white house him and his daughter get separated and the journey of him getting back to his daughter again, consist of fights, lies, accusations, violence, explosions, ect. Emily is then taken hostage by Martin Walker (James Woods) who is head of the presidential detail. He threatens to kill Emily if Cale (Tatum) does not surrender.
The trailer opens with a voice over of three different radio stations. This is diegetic sound and therefore is informing not only the audience but the characters within the film. The radio station is saying how there has been breaking news in Washington, the news report claims that there has been a 'shocking explosion'. Just as the word shocking is said a building explodes, making  the audience engage in the trailer. Whilst the news report is still being played there are several things going on at once. There is text which is appearing giving the audience extra information The trailer is breaking up and cracks, which links with the sound the radio makes when you change the station. Within the first thirty six seconds you see a plane explode, buildings explode, and people running away and screaming. This immediately interests the audience as it hooks them in on a gripping storyline. Constantly throughout the trailer the audience will be trying to figure out what is going on in the trailer, trying to carefully place the information given in relevant possible plots. The costumes of those in the trailer can also confer to the audience that it is an action film, although some are wearing suits, and even though holding a gun, the audience can infer that he is a man of importance and most likely not to be the antagonist. Also in the trailer once the director has come up, other films that Roland Emmerich has directed appear on the screen, with a dramatic sound effect. Which would result in the audience counting how many films that he has directed which have been successful within the industry. This is a unique selling point for 'White House Down'. Where people are a fan of Roland Emmerichs previous work they will expect this film to be just as successful giving it a large fan base to begin with, allowing it to do well within the industry.

Research and Planning: James Bond - Skyfall Trailer Analysis

Skyfall

'Skyfall' is the twenty third James Bond film produced by Eon Productions. It was released in 2012 and stars Daniel Craig, Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes, Albert Finny, Naomie Harris, and Judi Dench. A unique selling point for 'Skyfall' is having Judi Dench appear in the film. She appeared in other James Bond films and therefore is a noticeable actor that can be recognised from the others as being a successful actor, enticing more viewers.
The trailer begins with three quick scenes that lead to a longer lasting scene where a man is holding a gun. The use of the short scenes will create tension within the audience. Where he is holding a gun it suggests to the audience that someone is going to die, this is a convention of an action film. The weaponry used is also what the audience expect to see in an action trailer, as it immediately grips the audiences attention to see if they can see what the character is planning to do next. There are car chases and fighting which both are also expected to be seen within the film. The tempo of the music increases to build suspense, throughout the scenes involving the car chase. Other typical conventions of an action film that we see in the trailer are explosions. They are there to engage the audience into wanting to watch the film and figure out the storyline/plot. Without the use of swearing, violence, weapons, car chases, explosions etc. the audience would lose interest and the film wouldn't be successful within the industry.
The costume infers that the people within the trailer are of importance as they are smartly dressed, in suits. Such similar clothing could also suggest that they are working as part of a team,(MI6).
The dramatic music throughout the trailer adds emphasis to the story. The non diegetic sound, for example the soundtrack, is for the audiences use only therefore it has to reflect the same mood that is within the scene. Therefore, when there is a scene full of explosions and fights, the music will build up going from a consistent level to a really powerful ending. The effect of this makes the audience feel the mood of the scene.

Research and Planning - Sinister Trailer analysis

Sinister Trailer

Sinister is a 2012 supernatural horror film directed by Scott Derrickson and written by Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill and stars and Ethan Hawke. It follows true-crime writer Ellison Oswalt, played by Hawke, as he discovers a box of home movies that puts his family in danger.
The film plot consists of a family that move into a new house which has had a murder within it previous to them moving in. The main character then uses the death as inspiration to the book which he is currently writing. When he goes into the loft, he discovers a box filled with tapes he plays them to discover further that the family that lived in the house prior to them, had been brutally murdered and it had been taped by a man called 'Bogore'. Bogore eats the soul of children who see him in photos. After the main characters children witness the tapes he starts to notice strange things happening within his home. Once he destroys the tapes he notices they reappear every time he tries to destroy them.
The trailer opens with a isolated house at night, fitting the typical conventions of a horror film. The shot breaks up and shots go to black. Their is a voice over in the background, informing the audience of deaths. The next shot involves '9 months later'. We then see the same shot of the house except this time, it is at day not appearing as creepy as the night shot. The new family are gathered round for dinner at the table when there is an exchange of conversation about how the children didnt want to move, and live in the current house. A typical convention of a horror normally includes children who are either involved with the wrongdoing in the film. Or the child(ren) have a sixth sense which the audience become aware of. As the man goes up into the loft the music gets faster creating tension and suspense, then finally the music stops when the scene appears of the box. The audience will gather that this is an important scene as it is left in silence allowing the audience to stop and think about what could be in the box. When the man watches the tapes and discovers the previous family have been hung there is a screeching noise, possibly making the audience jump. A convention of a horror film is definitely its music. The music in a trailer needs to be gripping yet eerie.
A unique selling point for this trailer would be the well known director, Scott Derrickson. Derrickson as well as being a director is a screen writer and producer. His most notable work is as follows: 'The exorcism of Emily Rose' and 'Hellraiser: Inferno'.
