Research and Planning - G.I Joe Retaliation Analysis

G.I Joe is a 2013 American science fiction action film directed by Jon M. Chu. It is a sequal of G.I. Joe: The rise of the cobra. The film was written by zombieland, writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. G.I stars Channing Tatum, Arnold Vosloo, Ray Park, Jonothan Price, Bruce Willis and Byung-huns Lee. A unique selling point for this film is the three established recognisable actors. They are well known for there successful action films such as 'Die Hard', 'Looper' and 'Sin City'. Having three large and successful actors will attract a large audience. Allowing the film to be a success within the film industry.  Another unique selling point is the double genre. G.I Joe is not only a science fiction but an action. Having both genres included in one film, can entice more people to watch it as fans of action and science fiction will both go to view the film. This will make the film successful within the filming industry.
In the trailer the audience will recognise typical action conventions. By the characters wearing army clothing, carrying guns, driving tanks and flying helicopters, this would appeal to its target audience. The narrative begins with some cliche explosions. The president has been kidnapped and an imposter has taken his place who is an alien, it is the G.I Joe's job to stop the alien invasion, rescue the president and save everyone.
The mise en scene helps create an effect for the film, within the trailer, through camera angles, sound, clothing and editing. To start, the clothing in the trailer links well with the typical conventions of a action/science fiction film. For example in one of the scenes the characters are wearing army clothes, inferring that they are involved in war. With war, the connotation  of violence, guns and explosions closely follow. These are things that you would expect to see in a typical action film. Throughout the trailer the soundtrack is at a steady tempo, creating tension and making the audience on edge whilst watching. The music changes when the date and title appear on the screen it happens quickly and the sound that matches is a quick, sharp and effective sound. This is effective as it makes it seem powerful. It also helps make it stand out against the rest of the trailer. Highlighting the release date so effectively will attract the audience and will help the film become successful within the filming industry. The camera shots in this trailer also help advertise the film as the shots include main characters starring in the film. Channing Tatum and Bruce Willis will be the two characters that help get a big fan base for the film as they are both successful and can attract the female target audience whilst the genre of the film will attract the male. The shots also help reflect the narrative. From the shots the audience can suggest that Channing Tatum is a main character as he gets a lot of screen time (prevalence).
