Research and Planning - Man of Steel Trailer

Man of Steel

'Man of Steel' is a 2013 American superhero film,  which is directed by Zack Snyder. 'Man of Steel' was produced by Christopher Nolan, and scripted by David. S Goyer. The film stars many successful actors including, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Micheal Shannon, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Laurence Fishbourne, Antje Traue, Russel Crowe, Christopher Meloni and Ayelet Zurer. One of the unique selling points for 'Man of Steel' are that the actors have previously been in other successful films allowing them to have a 'fan base', The trailer then engages those fans and entices them into watching the film. The audience can also imply that 'Man of Steel' is going to be a successful film because of the very successful director (Zack Snyder) he has also directed the films, 'Dawn of the Dead ' and 'Sucker punch'. Sucker punch has a similar genre to 'Man of Steel' however 'Dawn of the Dead' is a horror. Which allows the audience to suggest that where he has directed more than one genre of film, they know that his films are good as they have all been successful; making him a successful director.
The Beginning of the trailer shows a character floating in water, the shot is taken from below the body, creating emphasis as the audience question if this character is dead or not. The next shot we see is what we can infer the same character as they too are in water and floating , he characters eyes are closed and his body is still. The audience then see a low angle shot of someone's feet running down the corridor building a tense atmosphere. they are running from something and that leaves the audience question what they could possibly be running from. The main character and what appears to be his mother have a conversation while we see them talking. It cuts to the shot at the very beginning including the second shot again. Because the shot is repeated the audience can infer that that scene in the film is significant as it needs to be remembered. Later in the trailer, we see the main character (Man of Steel) use his power to fly up into space this is a very strong and powerful scene. The music helps give this effect, as it builds an exciting atmosphere. The camera follows him into the sky as a long shot and it quickly gets closer until its an extreme close up of his face. Then the directors name appears on the screen this shot only lasts a few seconds. The music still gives an excited pathos as the scenes that come next are short and snappy, fitting in with music's build up. The effect of having short and snappy scenes, allow the audience feel like they are being shown lots of the film when really they are only seeing very little. These scenes include explosions and fights. This infers to the audience that it is not only a superhero film but an intense action film.
Used in the trailer are different types of shots, for example medium shots, close ups, low angle shots, two character shots and extreme close ups. The purpose of the trailer allows to advertise the film by using as many unique selling points in the two minutes they have to sell the film. 'Man of Steel' as well as having successful actors star in the film and very successful film director. The production of the film have used special effects including CGI computer generated image. CGI is the application of computer graphics to create or contribute to images in films. CGI mainly refers to 3D computer graphics used for creating scenes or special effects. A clip which shoes CGI in the trailer would be when the main character (Man of Steel) uses his powers and flies into the sky and heads into space.
The use of non diegetic and diegetic sound in the trailer creates suspense within the audience. Non diegetic sound whose source is neither visible on the screen nor has been implied to be  present in the action. And diegetic sound is whose source is visible on screen or whose source is implied to be present by the action of the film. For example in the trailer the non diegetic sound is the music which helps to create the mood. And sound effects which also help to create the effect. Diegetic sound however, are voices of characters talking and sounds made by objects.
