The Vow
The Vow is a romantic drama film, released in 2012. It is directed by Micheal Sucsy and distributed by screen gems. The key actors include Channing Tatum as (Leo Collins) and Rachel McAdams as (Paige Collins) an acclaimed actress for her staring role in the Notebook. Channing Tatum has starred in many other films, most notably, Dear John, which is a popular romance film. Having Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams star is a unique selling point for this film. Especially as Channing Tatum has an incredibly large fan base.
The trailer begins with an over the shoulder shot of the couple with close ups so that you can see the emotion on their faces. The next shot shows the couple in a gallery and they appear to be getting married we can suggest this from the mise en scene, the clothing includes the main character in a wedding dress and the other in a suit. Then there is a long shot of two security guards which chase them out of the gallery inferring to the audience that they were not supposed to be in there, which could then lead to the suggestion that the gallery was a memorable place to both the main characters and that's why they chose to get married there, even thought they may not have been allowed. Following this scene is a scene involving a crash.
The equilibrium in the trailer is when the audience see the happy couple getting married and subsequently moving in together because they are happy in love. The romance genre at the beginning of the film is highlighted by the props such as flowers and kissing and cuddling. A disequilibrium then follows in the trailer when the protagonist is involved in a car accident and unfortunately loses her memory. the narrative is that she does not recognise her husband which leaves him utterly devastated. Which makes him want to pursue her affections. He does this by starting right from the beginning and takes her on a date this is an attempt at repair.
The trailer has three parts to it a happy scene, followed by a sad scene, then a happy scene again. Following from this the film will either conclude with a happy or sad ending. For example a happy ending would be if they fell in love again and lived 'happily ever after'. A sad ending would be if they were to never speak again because she simply couldn't remember who he was. Or to fit another situation in a film, a tragic death at the end.
Release date of the film was valentines day, which links with the genre as it is a romance film.
